Fundamentals of Movement

For children aged 4-7, the focus should be on developing fundamental movement skills rather than sport-specific skills. This is a critical stage for building coordination, balance, and body awareness that serves as a foundation for future athletic development. Through decades of coaching children of all ages, we have put together a program that will challenge them while having fun, which include:

  • Locomotor Skills: These involve movement from one place to another and are essential for most sports.

  • Running: Learn proper form with an emphasis on light, quick steps and arm movement.

  • Balance and StabilityBalance is key for coordination and injury prevention.

  • Static Balance: Standing on one foot, holding positions.

  • Dynamic Balance: Walking on beams or balance lines.

  • Body Awareness: Exercises like yoga or animal movements (e.g., crawling, bear walks).

  • Object Control Skills: Handling objects helps develop hand-eye and foot-eye coordination.

  • Agility, Coordination, and Reaction: These skills are fundamental for quick responses and adaptability.

  • Flexibility and Mobility

  • Strength Development (bodyweight-based)
